About the GITA Center

Mission

The GITA Center at the University of Liberia serves as the academic hub for geospatial education, research, and applied technology in support of Liberia's national spatial data infrastructure. The center bridges global geospatial innovation with Liberia's development priorities.

Programs & Activities

  • GIS certificate and degree programs for Liberian professionals
  • Geodetic surveying and remote sensing training
  • Applied research in land administration and urban mapping
  • Collaboration with LLA, LISGIS, and international partners
  • Open-source GIS software training (QGIS, GeoServer, PostGIS)

Role in the OneMap Initiative

The GITA Center provides the human capital foundation for the LGDI — training the surveyors, GIS technicians, and data managers who will operate and maintain the national spatial data infrastructure. The center also serves as a neutral academic partner for quality assurance and peer review of national datasets.
